Email marketing should be a crucial component of your affiliate marketing arsenal. It is important to stay in touch with your prospects and keep marketing to them over and over again. Let's look at 5 key steps to your affiliate email marketing success.

 

Pick your affiliate program

How to choose a good affiliate program is beyond the scope of this article, but it's still well worth exploring the point a little further. Obviously you need to attend to the basics, such as a hungry, buying market, decent commission payouts, a high converting sales letter and so on.

For the purposes of email marketing, it's also advisable to pick an affiliate program that provides you with ready made email marketing material, like autoresponder follow-up messages, or ready to use articles that allow you to plug your affiliate link into the resource box.

You can also use articles you've written yourself, or articles containing relevant niche specific information from article directories. The latter isn't advisable as you'll need to credit the authors when using it, which means providing a link to something other than what you're promoting.

Set up your follow-up sequence

Now arrange your messages in a follow-up sequence. Create at least a series of 7 messages. Don't just blatantly sell – mix real and valuable content with recommendations for the product you are promoting. Your list can be a long term income generator if you don't scare people off within the first week by mercilessly hammering them with promotional emails.

Get an autoresponder

The two most popular autoresponder providers on the web are Aweber and Getresponse. Now you need to create an autoresponder and add your follow-up messages that you prepared earlier into the message sequence. Set them to go out between 2 and 3 days apart. First send two content messages, then a straight out promotion/recommendation for the product, followed by another content message or two.

Be sure to provide a good deal of content, as people will stick around longer if you're providing them with good information instead of just selling to them. Your email list can become a long term marketing tool for many related products, not just a short term tool for the first product you used it for.

Add your autoresponder subscription box to your sales page

If you're a smart affiliate marketer, you will most likely have something like a review page set up where you send your prospects. Make sure you add an opt-in box for your autoresponder to this page. Write a short, benefit-heavy description of what people will receive when they subscribe to the list.

Find new, related products to promote

Now that you're building a list, stay in touch and build a relationship with your prospects by providing relevant content and find new, hot selling products in the same niche to promote to your list from time to time.
